I am currently running version 1.1 beta r519 on a Raspberry Pi and want to upgrade to the latest. Is there an upgrade-in-place option, perhaps through apt-get? If not, what is the method to upgrade my HomeGenie installation?

I think you should try to check for updates using the automated updater (Configure -> About HomeGenie):
If it doesn’t work in your installation, then you will need to perform a clean install of HomeGenie and then restore your settings from backup.
